FUTURE OF EDUCATION

There were many loopholes in the Indian education system like lack of vocational studies, lack of brain games, poor infrastructure in public schools, less efficient teachers, more homework, more burden, and a famous line” padhoge likhoge banoge nawab, kheloge koodoge hoge khraab”.

This line was parent's signature line whenever their children wanted to pursue some extracurricular activity like dance, sports, singing, acting, etc. They had their dreams of being in the Olympics, commonwealth games, a famous choreographer, a talented singer, an actor with diehard fans but many didn’t get support or there were not many opportunities for them to grow.

Since then, the government started taking some measures to upgrade our education system for making it the finest in the world so that foreign students can also access its advantages, Indian students also can grow and develop their status throughout the world. The government started making new rules, reforms, etc. 3 NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICIES came in 1968,1986, and 2020. It all focused on uplifting the education system and Main parts of it like teachers, curriculum, vocational field, marking criteria, building schools, enrolments, parents’ involvement, making different committees to help students and institutions like UGC, NCERT AICTE, ICAR, etc. passing RTE act,2009 and also promoting local languages.

I will not write much on the past but will focus more on the present and future.

REFORMS TAKEN IN NEW EDUCATION POLICY,2020

  • 100% Gross enrolment ratio to be achieved by 2030.

  • More focus on teacher education- specific training, teacher’s recruitment through teacher eligibility test, interviews, demonstrations, etc. High-quality material will be provided to teachers. The practice of unqualified teachers will be stopped across the country by 2022.

  • Promoting local languages like Sanskrit, Hindi, Pali, Prakrit, and Persian and educating in these local languages till at least grade 5.

  • RTE act,2009 will be extended to age group 3-6 years means giving free, safe, high-quality education by 2025. Thus, promoting early childhood education.

  • More focus on holistic development (5+3+3+4) design.

5 years- Foundational Stage-Brain development

3 years-Preparatory Stage-Structured learning

3 years-Middle Stage-Navigating adolescence

4 years-Secondary Stage-Higher education

  • By 2025 adapting computerized testing, more focus on Olympiads, competitions, summer programs, and more focus on National Testing Agency.

  • In graduation after 1-year certificate will be given and after 2 years advance diploma course. Focus on more research. M-Phil degree will be discontinued.

  • Socioeconomically disadvantaged locations/ districts will be given priority, school libraries will be expanded, Multidisciplinary education and research universities will be set up like agricultural universities, technical universities, etc.

  • UGC will be turned to Higher education Grants Council and National Achievement Survey will be taken by NCERT.

  • Also, schools will be grouped into complexes by 2023 which will help in sharing resources like sports equipment, music instruments, labs, libraries, etc.

WHAT REFORMS SHOULD BE TAKEN FOR THE FUTURE ASSETS

  • Vedic maths should be taught from starting to improve calculation speeds.

  • There are gaps in reforms like you can notice NEPs in 1968 then 1986 and then in 2020. RTE act 2009 is now extended in 2020. Implementation of reforms also took long gaps. So, reforms should be made, passed, and implemented at a faster pace.

  • There is a difference between giving and cramming knowledge. So, instead of telling children to learn GK books that have chapters on famous personalities, current affairs should be discussed with them in ½ an hour class. They should be only given knowledge of famous GK topics but should not be forced to cram them.

  • 10 mins break should be they’re after each class instead of continuous classes like we can see in our online schedule also.

  • Instead of giving them homework for home, homework should be told to complete in schools only and after school they should be given time to pursue their interests like abacus classes, computer classes, teaching them sudokus, brain games, extracurricular activities, enhancing vocabulary, etc.

.

  • In many schools’ girl's cricket team is not there so it should also be taken into consideration.

  • Lectures on health should be given on how to maintain a balanced diet, reduce weight, increase height, instead of measuring it at schools which many times embarrass a lot of students.

  • Also, students should be taught how to read the newspaper, how to use it for their benefit.

  • Books should be told to keep in schools only till primary level and note-making should be promoted.

  • Also, each school should have counsellors to protect a child from any kind of mental illness.

  • Public schools should tie up with NGOs, newspaper vendors, different academies like badminton, swimming, basketball, etc. , to avail facilities of best coaches, classes like abacus, computer, knitting and weaving, karate, etc. So that, these services can be provided to children at reasonable prices for easy accessibility by everyone at each stage if they lack such infrastructure.
